When suction drops, most people turn the level up. The valve is usually the actual answer. Silicone that has gone slack no longer closes fully between pulses, and no setting compensates for that.
That is the ordinary lifespan under daily use. Heavy pumping and hot washes shorten it, light use stretches it. The clearer signal than any schedule: hold the valve up and look at the slit. If it gapes open at rest, it is done.
The membrane is the other part in this path, and it fails the same quiet way. Replacing both at once means you know for certain the suction path is fresh.
